Vulnerable Solid

Curated by Eder Chiodetto

forms

that form infinity

that unshape us

come to remind us

that life is made

to play

our diptych brought us together

we became one single work

we only know how to live in one

my rhythm slows down

with your reflection

I meditate

to the voice of the waves

the Southwest wind

our amusement park

the movement

our ecstasy

we enter this empty

sphere

this unknown place

that seems familiar

a regress

an ambiguous

feeling

this existential void

by looking at the past

do we understand

the present?

I ask you

you ask me

everybody asks us

if in silence

we listen to each other

if in silence

we complete ourselves

if we deconstruct ourselves

to reconstruct ourselves

if we unlearn

to learn, together,

to live

the memory

our island of edition

shuffling

everything and anything

the certainty

of time's unexistence

the uncertainty

of our existence

the distance

scares me

with a breath

I project

my disappearance

in my body

I alienate myself

something hugs me

tells me that I am me

tells me who am I

a flavor

a note

hiding with you

both of us

sailing to the same knot

shining on the moon

I search for the endless walk

Luciana Rique

Vulnerable Solid

Certain artists, when faced with the dilemmas of existence, which inevitably contains oppressive narratives and signs of traumas acquired throughout life, turn the artistic gesture into a therapeutic way of overcoming this state of things. Art then emerges with its potential for transmuting reality, capable of creating a welcoming and therapeutic environment.

In Vulnerable Solid, the artist continues to use photographic images, which she obtains through a unique way of capturing traces, encounters of shapes, cadences of light and textures that, in general, escape a less attentive look. These images, which emerge from a contemplative state and manifest themselves as the visible materiality of a particular universe, now strive to make volatile the solidity of the weights and counterweights that we insist on carrying throughout life.

Luciana Rique expands the use of photography, now seeking a dialogue between images and materials that create tensions and distensions in the body of the works, resulting in pieces in which lightness, balance and a pressing state of sensorial enjoyment provide the tone that drives this desire of transmutation.

Traditional photography mediums such as paper, frames and glass lose their utilitarian feature, which only aims to preserve the works. Thus, the photograph becomes an object, the glass becomes part of the work, the reflection and opacity reveal how incidental lights shape our perception of the world.

A territory of appeasement and balancing of opposing forces, Luciana Rique's visual and poetic work is configured as an environment

which has the capacity to restore the axis shaken by the imbalances of our days. Or as the Mexican poet Octavio Paz says: “...the struggle is resolved in the poem, with the triumph of the image that embraces the opposites without annihilating them”.
